Concert
pianist Eliane Lust (Eli-aan Loost) was recently praised by the Chicago
Tribune as "...a pianist of extraordinary range, emotional depth
and intelligence...a musician of the highest order." and “a
true artist whose first language is music” by France's La Depeche.
Critically acclaimed throughout the world by masters of the classical
profession as well as esteemed critics for several decades now, Eliane
has also been the recipient of such prestigious awards as performances
at Carnegie Recital Hall, the Paderewski Festival, the Villa Montalvo
Discovery Series, the Dame Myra Hesse Series and the Lagesse Foundation.
Additionally, the California Arts Council Touring Roster has given
her special award recognition for her innovative solo programming
and dedication to new American piano music. Eliane's recital and master
class tours throughout North America, Europe, French Polynesia and
Asia have included the Tanglewood, Aspen, Banff-Canada, Ernen-Musikdorf,
Hereford-UK and Spoleto-Italy Music Festivals, among others.
Of special note is Eliane's unique programming which ranges from the
Baroque to the music of Art Tatum and includes the complete Mendelssohn
“Songs Without Words”, “Love Notes”: the music
of Robert and Clara Schumann, “Rocking”: three centuries
of the world's greatest lullabies, "La Valse Francaise":
two centuries of French waltzes for solo piano and "The Speaking
Pianist": repertoire for a solo pianist who speaks while playing.
Eliane's chamber music collaborations have also included a two-piano
partnership with the American composer-pianist Frederic Rzewski (Jev-skee)
who has been called “the greatest pianist-composer of our time
and something of a legend in modern music” by the Los Angeles
Times.
Lust’s educational pedigree remains one of the most impressive
available today. Her primary musical influences, Gyorgy Sebök
and Leonard Shure mark her musical lineage directly to Beethoven through
the legendary German pianist Artur Schnabel as well as to Leo Weiner,
one of Hungary's leading music educators. Other important influences
include the pianists Richard Goode and Paul Hersh, American composers
Frederick Rzewski and Charles Shere and Schnabel’s biographer,
Konrad Wolff, whose piano Eliane owns.
A
notoriously inspiring coach for advanced pianists, Lust is based
in San Francisco, California where she holds monthly master classes
for highly dedicated musicians.
